The 2016 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 is a spectacular event bringing together cyclists of all abilities. This year we’re lucky enough to have 42 people who are riding on behalf of us, from family groups to our staff, from first-timer to seasoned veterans.

We talked to Tony who has cycled Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 for the last 2 years to raise money for us and is riding it again this year.

RideLondon 2

You’ve cycled Ride London twice, what’s your personal best time?

My PB so far is 5:05:08 so I will be looking to finish within 5 hours.

What kind of fundraising have you done?

I’ve organised 2 quizzes, both of which were attended by many people - a number of companies donated raffle prizes which helped me achieve a larger amount on the night.

Plus I’ve also taken on a variety of 'seasonal' activities, from ‘guess the amount of eggs in the bottle’ to a ‘find tony’ map - which I encourage my customers to take part in (I’m self-employed). Finally, every year, I encourage friends, family and customers to ‘guess my time’ as well as to donate via my collection box on the counter in my workshop.

My son and daughter have also fundraised for Action for Children: my son, Matthew, took part in the London Marathon; and my daughter helped with the Suffolk Coast Bike Ride and took on the Berlin Marathon for the cause.

Why did you pick Action for Children?

Action for Children does wonderful work with the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people, offering a variety of services in communities across the country, as well as being a voice for children, and campaigning for their rights.

They’ve provided me with fantastic support over these past two Ride London events (2016 is my third year) and they enabled me to raise around £1,000 in 2 years in a number of events.  The team make fundraising easy, by providing ideas and making it easy to pay in funds raised, whilst also encouraging me to push on with my training! I never even hesitated to sign up this year.

Good luck to Tony and all Ride London cyclists!
